CEA is a protein that is found on some type of cancer cells. It is used as a tumour marker mainly for colon cancer, but also seen in cancers of the lung, breast, pancreas, ovary, prostate, liver, and thyroid. The test may be ordered to screen for cancer in the presence of other symptoms or signs, but mainly to monitor the response to treatment.
