Erythropoietin is a hormone produced by the kidney to stimulate the bone marrow to make red blood cells (RBCs). This test may be ordered to help differentiate between different causes of anemia, to evaluate some kind of kidney tumors, and to check for doping among athletes.
Test is performed on a blood sample. No preparation is required. Certain medications may affect the results. So make sure your doctor is informed about any medications or herbal supplements you may be taking.
