GGT is an enzyme found in the liver cells. The test helps to identify possible damage to the liver or its ducts. If you have elevated alkaline phosphatase, another liver enzyme, GGT will differentiate between a liver problem or a bone problem. This test is usually order in conjunction with a liver profile. GGT can be used to screen for chronic alcohol intake, and to monitor alcohol use in people who are on treatment.
Test is performed on a blood sample. Fasting after midnight from the night before the test is recommended
