Lipoprotein a is a type of LDL cholesterol. Although LDL is generally affected by both lifestyle and family history, Lp(a) is typically determined by genetics and not lifestyle. This test is done to determine a person's risk of heart disease especially if a person has a family history of heart disease.
Test is performed on a blood sample. You should not eat or drink anything other than water for 12 hours before the test
