Aldolase is an enzyme that helps convert glucose into energy. Since their levels are elevated when a person has muscle damage, the test may be ordered to diagnose and monitor certain conditions related to muscle. It may be tested along with CPK or creatine kinase to differentiate between certain muscle conditions.
This test is performed on a blood sample. Fasting for at least 8 hrs and avoidance of strenuous activity is recommended for accurate results.
