Trigycerides are a type of fat found in the blood. A high level of triglycerides are associated with a greater risk of heart disease. This test is usually performed as part of a panel of tests that check for various fats or lipids in the blood called lipid profile. Testing is especially important in people with history of high triglycerides or heart disease, in obese people, in those who lead an inactive lifestyle and in people who have diabetes, kidney disease, or thyroid problems.
Test is performed on a blood sample. You should not eat or drink anything other than water for 12 hours before the test
