Epinephrine is a catecholamine, a hormone produced by the adrenal gland. Other similar hormones are norepinephrine and dopamine. This test is done in patients with persistent hypertension to rule out a tumor of the adrenal gland called pheochromocytoma, or if there are signs indicating or a family history of such a tumor. May also be ordered to monitor treatment for such a condition.

Test Instructions

Test requires a blood and a 24 hr urine sample. Empty your bladder completely first thing in the morning and collect urine everytime you go to the toilet for the next 24 hours, including the first time the next morning. Coffee, tea, alcohol, certain
