Sodium is an essential mineral that is critical for fluid balance and nerve and muscle function. Body maintains sodium in a tight balance through a variety of mechanisms. Too much sodium can raise your blood pressure. Urinary sodium may be checked when blood sodium is abnormal, to help determine the cause of the problem and to monitor treatment.
This test requires a 24 hour collection. Empty your bladder completely first thing in the morning and collect urine everytime you go to the toilet for the next 24 hours, including the first time the next morning.
